WELCOME RE-ENACTORS:

Once again, the Battle of Leatherwood Reenactment Committee is pleased to sponsor The Battle of Leatherwood Reenactment. This event commemorates the original battle of October 19, 1862. This year's reenactment will be held October 24, 25 and 26, 2008 on the original site at Cornettsville, Kentucky, graciously made available by Dr. Marion Miniard and family.

We appreciate your willingness to participate in the 6th Annual Battle of Leatherwood. THANK YOU! Our goal is to remember that it is YOU, the re-enactors, who make this event what it is, and we want to make sure that you will make it a point to include Leatherwood on your 2008 schedule. It is the intent of the Committee and the residents of the city of Hazard and Perry County to make each re-enactor feel welcome to contact any of the committee members if you have any questions or need further assistance.

Everyone is welcome. There is no fee to participate. All re-enactors must check in upon arrival at the registration tent to register for the event and their accommodations at the Calvary College Inn. We have plenty of space for horses, a barn and a large pasture. If you are interested in making reservations to stay at the Calvary College Inn, please contact Chairman Gary Begley at 606-438-0494.

Please mark your calendars to attend our event in 2009. The Battle of Leatherwood will host an exhibit of the life size representation of the Hunley submarine. On the night of February 17, 1864, the H.L. Hunley embarked on a dangerous mission that would forever mark her place in history. The Hunley became the first submarine ever to sink an enemy ship.

We sincerely hope that you will come and join us this year to make this a memorable weekend for the re-enactors and the spectators. You are truly our guest and we appreciate the time you take out of your busy schedule to share this time of remembering with us.

Additional activities include:School Days Living History on Friday (children only), a Ladies Tea, and a Grand Military Ball to be held on the historic Calvary College Campus, and a Sunday Morning church service on the battlefield.

Sincerely,
The Battle of Leatherwood Committee
