A reenactment of the Battle of Leatherwood will take place on October 22-24, 2010. The event will kick off on Friday with an education day for all area schools. We will hold a Masonic Lodge meeting on the battlefield Friday evening. The lodge meeting is the only one of its kind in the state of KY and all Masons are invited. Saturday events begin at 9:00 am with weapons demonstrations, craft demonstrations, a battle at 2:00 pm and other festivities throughout the day, ending with a Grand Ball at 7:00 pm. Sunday events include a church service at 11:00 am, a battle at 2:00 pm, and closing ceremonies after the battle.
The events are all free and open to the public. Period Civil War music will be performed at the ball and all dances will be called, for those that are inexperienced. Everyone is welcome.
The reenactment will take place across the creek from Leatherwood Blackey Health Clinic. Sutlers (merchants selling period provisions), food booths and other merchants will be on site. Reenactor registration and event information is available at the new Brashearville General store. The buildings on the site have all been moved and erected with the help of our staff and many local volunteers. The creation of a working village is on the horizon.
